Four men — Thirunavukkarasu, Sathish, Sabarirajan and Vasanthakumar — all in their 20s, have been accused of sexually assaulting women in Pollachi and filming the act to blackmail them for money or for physical submission .They apparently worked in well coordinated and planned way to sexually and emotionally harass girls that kept going on for 7 years.

Accused all well educated used to lure women on pretext of friendship and win their confidence before assaulting them and then blackmailing them.Only one  19 year old girl had come forward to report it(when she was being forced to strip inside the car but she managed to escape) .In a negligent move the police leaked her name and some of the accused even threatened her family to withdraw the complaint.

Opposition party in TN are blaming police for diluting the case.Mr Stalin said. “Invoking Useless Goondas Act (a state law) raises doubts on whether it is an attempt to technically help the accused. Recent women suicides in the area ought to be reinvestigated,” he added

The police have not applied for the custody of the arrested men – a time reserved for questioning of the accused – and they illegally named the survivor who filed the complaint in their press statement. It is not known what action has been taken against the officer responsible.

The police claimed that the cellphone of the accused had only four videos of assaults, instead of the 200 videos that the local media claimed. The police also claimed that there were only four women who were abused and the number of accused is also four.

An CBI inquiry has been ordered now in the case.

Online people reacted by expressing their distrust on how police works in India. In India most women still do report rape or sexual assault cases because of fear of society and unsympathetic response from police.
